Story: James T. Kirk is sent away from his loved ones from the planet Chal to be in outer space to push the horns. Only when he is deep in his heart ready to resist the lure of a loudly calling universe, he should return to his new home. So
makes the most deserving Captain of the Universe on the way to the planet where it eventually becomes the light of day. But dark forces seek the Man on the earth's life. From the mirror universe an old friend appears on the scene: Director Spock.
kidnapped Under his leadership, the twin Kathryn Janeway the Kirk, which triggered by his visit to the mirror universe, anarchy and chaos.
investigated Meanwhile, Captain Picard a stormy space anomaly to wormholes when he actually meets a relic that from the far Delta Quadrant seem to come. The USS Voyager seems finally to have found a transition home!
But the joy is clouded by the rapid recognition that this ship is from the mirror universe, and as bait for the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 is designed -E.
Picard and his crew advised promptly in captivity of the alliance of Klingons and Cardassians who have forged an insidious plan to conquer this reality. The most senior originals of this universe to replace the other, while transferring complete Starfleet ships to quell the rebellion with the military potential of the Terrans in Terok Nor by their equivalents.
Sun joins forces with director Kirk Spock and a handful of surviving contemporaries, returns to back to active duty and enters in to save Picard. However, hovering not only his old friend and engraver in danger but also the woman who sent away from in Chal. Teilani, Kirk's new old sweetheart, was the kidnap victim of the unknown evil ruler of the mirror universe ...

praiseworthy aspects : One should be even realistic to keep in mind: As old as William Shatner already is, many of my readers probably can not be (I warn you to take this opportunity once again to guard against the consequences of consumption of alcohol, hashish and Star Trek novels!). The now 79 Lenzen proud counting exiled Canadians had already early on with the first signs of aging deal. During the shoot for the original Star Trek series of his head hair was so sporadic that he was forced to respect his immense ego, sticking to a Fifi on the head, which provides enormous since then for amusement among the audience.
asks one looks even his limited acting skills and his tremendous self-esteem you are already somehow know why this man in such shows as Boston Legal or more recently " $ # *! My Dad Says to keep "always given the opportunity to be of age drawn face to the camera.
The explanation is as simple as banal: 'The Shat' is an original! First, it polarizes, on the other, he amuses itself by its presence. And yet it is through such roles as James T. Kirk, TJ Hooker and just Denny Crane a legend of the screen. He's probably more people than a term such as Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Abadi , Wangari Maathai or Martti Ahtisaari . To put it in a nutshell: William Shatner, in spite of all controversies at the heart of a general interest. Why do I tell
all this? Well, it explains, at least in the approach, why are there books that have emblazoned the name of this man, although the main part of the effort certainly the couple Reeves-Stevens is due. It explains why these books sold so well. It also reveals why it seems to disturb no one who described that the content is about as credible as the pre-bath protestations Uwe Barschel . And it is clear why no one hangs on the 455-page heavy self-congratulation.
Shatner has become a (still) living legend. A legend with his own style. My good friend K'olbasa said one day during a lively discussion about Boston Legal to me that Shatner's Denny Crane representation acting less power than pure self-presentation was. The figure of the crazy, senile and horny old bag is so rather than everyday role for the man whose greatest difference to well-Crane is to be Canadian instead of American.
From this point of reading this book really interesting, because Denny Crane is everywhere.
about the many observations on aging. In fact, this book is a great tribute to the value of older citizens for any society. Only in the light of this point is clear why even the great James T. Kirk, the total rejection McCoys towards modern technologies (see page 25) to once unconditionally shares. Or why the evil Kirk back time after time his advanced maturity date recalls (.. See page 14 ff, p. 120f and p. 175) - almost giving the impression that Kirk is battered disc something like Cranes Alzheimer . Even the driving force of the new TNG movies that goes USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E, in their design ideas back to the now 153jährigen Scotty (see p. 221).
One is it more than clear: the heroes of yesteryear are as much needed as never before. Finally there are the so-called Luschen the 'Next Generation', the slide of an existential disaster to another and without the help of wise old Mates would have long since disappeared into the happy hunting grounds.
Yes, of Picard, author of the team will be met with at least some respect, must resign here in the second term. He is a kind Alan Shore : Of course he did not - such as Denny Crane - played all cases its Laufbahm, but at least he is a reasonably worthy heir, and who knows, maybe the two captains of the Enterprise get married at the end, too yet? The potency
Kirk would do any harm. Despite its oh-so-bad back condition he happily copulating with his also in the aging Teilani around (see, eg, p. 30).
However, a new quality not go unmentioned: The notorious womanizer drives the universe is not any! Well, he may look like a bloated prune during the decomposition process, but this fact seems to do the pairing will not detract from the mirror universe, Janeway (which the horror of this alternate timeline somehow emphasized). More surprising that Kirk just her time is a hearty basket and the erotic curves of his wrinkled, trembling touch the naked body of a single senile Klingon Romulanerin be reserved (see p. 214). What a pity!
The vote would almost contemplative, as if not always the Shatner Sun very own denial reality and his penchant for self-centeredness would be maintained. So it was not his toupee, but manipulated Starfleet diet that prevented her from his luxuriant hair graying (see p. 19)! The best example of the deep humble modesty of the alleged author, however, that rate (p. 54):

" But as usual, the universe had other plans for James T. Kirk. "

While the reader is therefore becoming clear that the universe really is a vindictive bitch with a penchant for sadism, all his hopes rest on a man who, like a mantra advances always equal to its own name:" Denny Crane! "This
tic that desöfteren in previous volumes, even with this role will put on show, you put here simply Riker in the mouth, which actually manages to drive with the name of the local Redeemer Cardassians in the madness (see p. 405).
And tag 'drive': The most important addition to Boston and action Wirkensort Denny Crane is the Fishing Lodge Nimmo Bay , deep in the Canadian forests. This is particularly noteworthy from the point that the country is the maple trees and leaves the real home of William Shatner. The activities can not take it, even Kirk to charge to Canadian allusions. When the eyes of the idyllic Iowa born man that is a look at the mirror universe-earth throw wander, they should not have the stinking of manure village Riverside , where he sees the light of day, but after Montréal as a kind of Bethlehem for Shatner disciples (cf. p. 164). Logical that there also occurs a conference of the Star Fleet (see p. 44) and Kirk runabout selection on a ship is that the name of that with current flowing through the city of Quebec (see S . 278).
is almost heart-rending it, however, if Shatner is quiet insights into its interior. The delicate attempt, his differences process with his fellow actor James Doohan representing the respective roles (cf. p. 45ff.) or to describe his problems with alcohol (cf. p. 192), seem to almost human. Only Takei Shatner Intimus stinks in the form Zulus when compared with Data from pretty (see p. 377f.).
questioned after these endless tributes to the man whose first presentation with Kirk Chris Pine was, of course, the question remains, what this book has to offer other than the (much) flesh Zukunftseros.
ranked understandably somewhat suggest the topic of 'mirror universe' at some distance in second place. A rich topic that was granted after a brilliant TOS Episode only a moderately interesting installment at Deep Space Nine. In the gaps between these events looks of this book.
expected longingly, of course, the equivalents of the Voyager crew, which was indeed given in the episodes "The witness " a little leeway, but so far - apart from Tuvok - mostly little attention has been paid. Voltage is guaranteed when the evil twins of Janeway, Tom Paris or Neelix have their well-deserved appearance in the limelight. Self the idea of invasion of our reality through almost identical people is simple and obvious. However, not only the Voyager crew of some innovative ideas for the evil counterpart of our reality. Even the comical differences to the content of "Journey to Babel " (see p. 230F.), The equally senseless death of Tasha Yar domiciled here (see p. 221ff.) Or the brilliant use of Medusa agents (p. 222) need not fear the tired adaptations of Deep Space Nine to hide.
third major plus for the work Shatner is the obvious help of the Reeves-Stevens couple. Not only is this book of many Cross-references (see, eg, p. 22, p. 143 or p. 445) and guest appearances (see, eg, p. 7, p. 44 and p. 201) is alive, there is in these books now and again remarkable technical considerations, their brilliance is forcing me, they deserved more likely attributable to these two people. The comprehensible descriptions of escape from vessels with higher warp speed (see p. 292f.) And the logical conclusions about how shields (cf. 387ff.) Make any sense if even for people who have the technical understanding of a Pakled .

Always exciting: A look in the mirror

criticisms made aspects : Welcome to the Shatnerversum, an alternate reality in which does not rotate the Milky Way is a gigantic black hole, but an iconic person: Captain Kirk.
Well, that's old hat and even from me long ago chewed beyond recognition. But I read recently again in Ralph Sanders "The Star Trek universe " on the status of Star Trek novels (Vol. II, p. 205)?

" ie on balance that the novels for the series are actually irrelevant, since the adventure is told in film and television are not considered. While this is absurd, since these novels must be approved by Paramount, but it is an incontrovertible fact. There are also made by Paramount now content restrictions. These include, among other things, that any novel can be written together in which the old and the new crew. [...]
is undesirable also each improper conduct of players, particularly as regards the subject of sex. "

Something seems apparently to apply only to ordinary mortals, and therefore the Messiah William Shatner is left out of it - even if it is absurd as this and previous scenes from cartoons like" The Mirror World "or" mirror images "contrary. What are these kinds of works that dare to oppose the greatest actors of the world?
Bad examples, of course!
Not to mention the fact that both works for various reasons are not suitable as a model, also lacks this band of traceability. A party official Starfleet tired retirees breaks out of the idyll of her retirement home, to show the youth of today how to thwart the destruction of the known world.
on the side Spock, who looked already in Star Trek XI so ancient as Kahlbutz , are also Scotty and McCoy, so characters, the original actor, ironically, no longer among the living. Especially McCoy, the proud 148 years to have under their belt (see p. 191), is a sad example of a denied leave, reminiscent of a spoof from the Simpsons :

Star Trek XII: So very tired! brave

While the old crew directs their walkers toward an uncertain future, the younger guard is hardly a reasonable margin. The entire TNG crew operates strunz stupid except Data's pretty slow and totally incompetent. Especially Jean-Luc Picard has made extremely bad, with the way his evil counterpart never makes a convincing figure. The captain gives the already extremely combat-lusting for researchers and the almost aggressive atmosphere between Riker and Picard also appears very strange (see p. 37) (p. 31ff.) - There's hardly room for something even more vulgar left!
tragic yet little thought is only the story. Why the hell is the alliance makes Klingons and Cardassians the effort to transfer to USS Enterprise in their universe when the USS Sovereign has long been under their control?
If you like, you can start the crowbar before: Why steal it plans to build a ship of the Intrepid-class ? Why not one of the Sovereign-class ? That they can easily recreate something, after all they have to be demonstrated.
The final plan is at least as complicated, expensive and ridiculous that not even Egon Olsen , Hanibal Smith or even the scheming of the Mirror universe Cardassians would embark on such a hare-brained crazy idea.
What remains is the end. This creates tension that is once again, for there is no real conclusion, but a far-fetched cliffhanger. The still living Mirror Tiberius appears and prevents the team elders can maintain their well-deserved nap.
Yet another amazing coincidence! Not only that Kirk himself is still alive (after his body was assimilated with Romulans allied Borg) - no, does his counterpart there, too! The many coincidences tried acting in this series are beginning to tire.

translation: The Heyne-Verlag has done with Star Trek fans in this country do not necessarily popular. For years he saved either in spelling or translation errors and a year-long history of wind, lost, where it quickly passed from the allegedly unprofitable business. Here, the Verlag
had just started a bit of his long goodbye to flesh and blood of previous translation errors. Suddenly we read " disabled" (p. 55) instead of " deactivated" and the salacious " Scooters " is finally a "runabout " (p. 293).
However, this was more than a drop in the bucket. Still can be, the German synchronization terms in spite of English words such as "Alien " (p. 7), "Star Fleet " (p. 9) or " Starbase " (P. 115) find, for there are German equivalents. But it is undeterred by other in-house terminology such as "discus segment" (p. 42), " Romulan beer" (p. 46) or " insignia communicator" (p. 105) for the series and films characterized pathways of readers seem strange and stilted.
is particularly annoying for a whole book in which it is supposed to go to the mirror universe, that " underground" and "Terran " (p. 10) terms are not distinguished. This confuses one within the novel, in which the English original the term " Terran" (p. 82) as in the series both as a proper name as well as an insult to people's thought. Despite this, not ashamed of the translators, this term will continue to apply generally to all that is of the earth. Thus, the issue loses some of its flair.
the flair of a half-hearted transfer offer English vocabulary terms such as " satisfaction" (p. 190) and a " ambiental system" (p. 192). Huge room took Andreas Brandhorst throughout the Admiral " Nechajew " (p. 33), because in English it is consistently as Nechayev "titled. The incorrect spelling of " Qo'noS " (p. 26), however, was stubborn copied from the original, while the translator to take credit for the dubious merit in the creation of the word " zeroing" (p. 202) probably to share with nobody needs.
So much space will be used: The " Emergency Medical Holographic program " is suddenly a "Holo- Medical emergency program" (p. 54). Who is stupid now finds should be borne in mind that thus at least the abbreviation 'MHN' is preserved, and no combination with the suffix ' Medo', as in the case was " Medo-deck " (p. 80) or "pocket Medo" (p. 122) was investigated.
behaves similar to the "world behind the mirror " (p. 134) - a rather dubious translation for " looking glass."
At one point I would have liked but more proactive. During the relatively short period of service of Bolian Karo Navigator on the USS Enterprise (see, eg, p. 36) I constantly feel the need to play cards or a rough voice in the head, the melodically emphasized the benefits of ersatz coffee in powder form.

Karo - I like you - you are simply good

anachronisms : To prevent by all the vulgar comments the impression that I am hardly a good word would be in this series of novels, I want to find words of praise for once:
I felt the way to the Star Trek veteran Matt Jefferies was worshiped (see p. 199) so subtly and tastefully. The idea of the events of Deep Space Nine episode "Always the Last with Tribbles "miteinzubringen is very successful (see p. 189f.). This will even finally admitted that money no longer exists, is a real milestone, even if the descriptions imply that the main work of Kirk's time was still back to them (cf. p. 175).
As much as I appreciate these efforts, so I met but also the large number of blunder that match the half-baked plot.
about the idea that wormholes are found in regions with specific properties. Supposedly, the characteristics of the Bajoran wormhole should have led to the conclusion that
the Badlands on his Existence are involved (see p. 35).
Such a nonsense! Not only did the Badlands in the distance to the system are (as one on a map can see in the episode "In-house ") - they are the product of a specific artificial intervention by the so-called prophets. Even if it was relating in any way, there would be no reason for the Enterprise, risking, hineinzunavigieren directly into the Badlands similar anomaly!
Not even the medicine is spared from excessive These kinds of ideas. After all, Kirk expects nothing less than that both of his hands just in case of loss could grow again (see p. 408) - a fact that the leg of the Ferengi Nog was not granted.
But who knows, maybe in Shatnerversum anything different?
the game with different time lines is a trademark of Star Treks, finally, not least as the eleventh movie proved energetically. Since the episode "Parallel Universe" this issue has become a real classic and every event of the normal time, there are an infinite number of alternative developments, which in turn attract other consequences. A true bubble source of narrative material in which the mirror universe has as much space as the Shatnerversum.
There may Riker Picard from time to speak to by his first name (see p. 37) or take the Sovereign-class thousand occupation (see p. 261). Perhaps it is
countries otherwise.
Most certainly, this Shatnerversum but a parallel mirror universe that we know not the equivalent. The universe described here differs significantly from that which was introduced in TOS, DS9 or Enterprise.
First time in the classification. While smaller
allow references from "A Parallel Universe" and "The dark side of the mirror " the presumption that both the universe started to separate at least since ancient Roman times, share the authors of this book, the events of the eighth feature film "First Contact " as a point of divergence determined (see p. 452ff.). This seems especially with regard to Phlox 'comments on Shakespeare something strange.
It is this point not even critical. The problem is more a description of the mirror universe as a place where the only 'different interpretations' led to different development (see p. 231ff.).
What happened to the utterly evil energy that this other place so terrifying, its inhabitants has so brutal and made the events there as bloodthirsty? This almost
plushy-soft imitation has in any case little that mean!
also claims to be cheeky, that humans and Vulcans justified in a voluntary association of the Terran Empire (see p. 160). That is not only in direct contrast to the descriptions in the Enterprise, but also very unique name for this institution!
Although the mirror universe, and the injustice there are so central to this work, it becomes entangled in an unworthy playing down this alternate reality. The dark atmosphere and the terrible magic of this classic of the great Star Trek inventions is "The Ghost" not fair and creates a parallel universe to a Parallel universe.

Conclusion: Who you buy something on which the brand name 'Shatner' is, one must also be prepared to get something in the 'Shatner' in it.
So much for the benefits of the book. Who
far-reaching expectations, be disappointed. A story about retirees without end, characters without character and a story without any sense diminish considerably in all stress the pleasure. Particularly tragic is that in that mirror universe that is described in such detail with the well-known evil parallel universe is not compatible. What is left is a soulless reality that the Shatnerversum turned over developments in no way inferior.

Memorable quotes :

" Either way, James T. Kirk must die. "
T'Val, p. 13

" Kirk Was it also a stubborn, stubborn megalomaniac with a straw in your head? "
McCoy p. 255

" I'm a doctor, not a quantum mechanic. "
MHN, p. 265

" Does the program correctly? "
" None of this is in order. But Star Fleet is still out to test them in practice. Presumably, they will give doctors the right to feel needed to be. "
Spock and McCoy on the MHN, p. 266

Rating: So very, very tired.
